He has utilized less commonly studied nuclei including N-14, N-15, O-17, F-19, Na-23 and Cl-35 for research studies. In 1999 a ParaVision controlled microimaging accessory was installed. The probe is capable of imaging samples from 10mm in diameter down to single cells and acquiring localized spectroscopy. Probes having specialized RF coils are also accommodated.
