Charles E. Brown, Ph.D.

Title: Director, RRC-East
Facilities: ADM

Dr. Brown performed research on the use of mass spectrometry to characterize metabolic pathways for his B.A. in Chemistry (SUNY-Buffalo) and specialized in the characterization of biosynthetic pathways by carbon-13 NMR spectroscopy for his Ph.D. in Biochemistry/Chemistry (Northwestern University). After two years as a Research Fellow at the Roche Institute of Molecular Biology investigating applications of NMR spectroscopy in neurophysiology, he joined the Biochemistry faculty at the Medical College of Wisconsin where he did early work on characterization of opiate metabolites and electrically conductive polymers with both cross polarization/magic angle sample spinning NMR spectroscopy and laser desorption-Fourier transform mass spectrometry. Dr. Brown then joined British Petroleum, based near London. Activities included analytical support and development of new on-line process monitoring techniques for BP Chemicals operations and research in Western Europe. In 1994 Dr. Brown joined the Research Resources Center. He is a member of the American Society for Pharmacology and Experimental Therapeutics and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry.
