The JEOL JEM-1220 is a 120kV transmission electron microscope fitted with a LaB6 electron source. The magnification range of the instrument is 50x to 600,000x, with a lattice resolution of 0.2nm (point resolution 0.36nm). The instrument has a Gatan multiscan CCD camera above the viewing chamber, which reads out into a Mac 8600 computer. Digital Micrograph (DM) software allows auto alignment, stigmation and focussing, individual images to be obtained and multiple images can be combined into rectangular montages. JEOL software on the instrument allows for automated collection of multiple images for montages using conventional TEM photographic plates. It was installed in 1997.
